Abstract An Orientalist and professor at the Coll?ge de France, Massignon was a leading intellectual of French culture and contemporary Catholicism. Educated in the climate of late 19th century la?cit?, he converted in the early years of the century becoming the correspondent and friend of Claudel and Maritain. The author of the Three prayers of Abraham died a few days after Vatican II had started. It is not only the celebratory coincidence that unites them in memory. His lessons remains highly recognizable in the documents of the Council which, recalling Abraham's profession of faith, common to Christians and Muslims, state that both peoples are embraced by the Creator in one plan for salvation.
