| Abstract | The point of departure for the Author is the fact that a missionary lives a personal (contemplative, mystical) relationship with God in the mission, and the mission brings the missionary into the life and the religions of peoples. Then he stops to consider the spiritualiy of peoples and of religions insofar as it can, and to some extent must, become part of the very ?adventure? of mission. There is a spirituality of peoples, at the social and cultural levels, and that of common religious feeling. And there is a specific spirituality of religions, often very flourishing. There is a difference between the encounter of the Christian faith with the spirituality of the religions that go back to the faith of Abraham (Hebraism and Islam) and the encounter with the other religions. In any event, the missionary is given a great challenge: to undertake a spiritual pilgrimage towards whatever is most true and valuable in other religions, and to expand all his being in this new world so as to approach and accompany other persons who are in search of the Absolute, whom he knows in Christ as the the Father. |
