Abstract We are confronted by the scandal of the divisions among Christians. This weakens the testimony that we can give to people of other religions. It can be said that the encounter with people of other religions provides a stimulus for ecumenical relations. It is necessary to take into account the different finality of ecumenical and interreligious relations. The former aim at bringing all Christians into a unity of faith and thus into communion. The latter aim at helping people to live in peace and harmony together, to work together for the benefit of humanity, and to help one another to discover and do the will of God. Yet the spirit of these relations is similar: there is a need to show respect, to act out of love, and to be humble. There are many opportunities for ecumenical cooperation in developing interreligious relations, in the dialogue of life, in responding together to the needs of humanity, in formal dialogue, or in sharing spiritual experiences. Some examples of such cooperation are given.
