Abstract The brief tract De rationibus fidei contra Saracenos, Graecos et Armenos ad Cantorem Antiochenum provides us with an insight into the doctrinal polemics that took place in the Middle East at the time of the Crusaders kingdoms. The objections raised by Muslims and recorded by the Cantor of Antioch in his letter to Thomas Aquinas are still present in Muslim polemical works against Christians. The replies of Aquinas allow us not only to observe the method that he applies and the substance of his arguments, but they also permit us to see whether his line of thought could be understood by Muslim interlocutors. Only in this way could one arrive at a positive appraisal of his role in present day Christian-Muslim dialogue.
