Abstract The figure of Karl Rahner becomes a model of openness of the catholic theology in the 20th century. The theological and christian value, as well as the legitimacy he acknowledged to non-christian religions is one of the major contributions he made to the Church along the line of ecumenism. The controversial notion of anonymous Christian, that enlarges universally the salvation horizon embracing all human beings, expresses very well the including spirit of the Second Vatican Council, in whose texts, however, the proper theological quality of the non-christian religions remained undefined.
