| Abstract | Over the last years the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue (PCID) has adressed good wishes to the worldwide Buddhist community on the occasion of the Vesakh / Hanamatsuri festival. So far these short messages have hardly been commented, although they contain important guidelines for interreligious dialogue. Following a detailed look into the dogmatic principles of the Declaration Dominus Iesus - on the occasion of its tenth anniversary - this article highlights the major topics of all sixteen Vesakh messages which underline the need for closer understanding and collaboration in the face of global problems. Reading this catechetical agenda in the light of the theological positions of Dominus Iesus, a surprising richness of spiritual values is discovered which helps to elaborate a conspectus of the particular viewpoints of two Vatican Dicasteries that may inspire an integral "diakonia of truth" and encourage further encounters with Buddhist traditions. |
