Abstract The aim of the article is to demonstrate the effect that the re-discovery of the Kingdom of God is having on Theology of Mission. It is only in the Encyclical Redemptoris Missio that we have an explicit recognition by the Magisterium that the Kingdom of God, in its historical dimension, extends beyond the Church. Nevertheless, this truth can already be perceived in the good news of the Kingdom that Jesus proclaimed in Palestine, and includes both ?a mysterious relationship with the Church? of those who are saved by Jesus Christ outside it, and the definition of the Church as the ?universal sacrament of the Kingdom of God?: in this definition the Church is understood not only in the order of the eschatological Kingdom, but also in that of the Kingdom of God already present in history, that is, in all the personal and social values and behaviour which indicate in the whole world, and especially in other religions, the semina Verbi and the unbounded action of the Holy Spirit. Starting of this deeper development of the relationship between Church and Kingdom of God, the Author opts for a Church that is poor, decentralised, striving not only for the proclamation of Jesus Christ, but also for human development and for dialogue with other cultures and religions: these ?activities? are an integral part of mission. As the Asian Bishops affirm: ?a Kingdom-centred approach to the Theology of Mission in no way calls into question the Christ-centred perspective of our faith? (Documents of the Church in Asia, 1489).
