| Abstract | The unity of the various elements of a given culture originates traditionally from the adhesion of the peoples of that culture to a common interpretation of existence, most often a religious interpretation. Consequently, the notion of ?one religion, one faith? has prevailed almost everywhere. However, democratic societies today claim that the coexistence of peoples of different creeds is possible in the same territory and on an equal footing. The present article investigates the conditions under which such project might be feasible and the possible consequences of the challenge it represents for the monotheistic religions. |
