Abstract In the age of globality, the self-determination of each individual and/or institution may impact the autonomy of all. Humanity, facing the increasing challenges of moral, social, and ecological sustainability, seeks to agree on common standards for global cooperation and collaboration. A conception of human freedom is needed that integrates intercultural differences in regard to personal and political liberties with universal human concerns. This article aims to lay the groundworks for one such conception by demarcating a notion of qualitative freedom from models of quantitative freedom.
