Abstract Vatican II saw the church's mission, as sign and witness in the world, to live and realize unity among the nations. It can carry out this mission, says Koch, only if it is open to all peoples and all nations. The Pentecost event shows that the church, from its very beginning, was universal and is, therefore, a faith community with a catholic horizon that values diversity in unity and unity in diversity.
