| Abstract | While the concept of cultural identity is used - and abused - by politicians in daily life, but also subject of reflections and research in humanities, it still seems useful and necessary to clarify its meaning, in a logical sense as well as from the point of view of political theory. This allows to explain why cultural identity seems to be so attractive, what cultural identity has in common with national identity and what the differences are. Furthermore, we have to see which cultural rights should be accepted in modern societies and why group rights for so-called cultural minorities should be handled restrictively. |
