Abstract After recalling the meaning of inculturation and its importance for the evangelization, the a. argues the urgency of this process in the Asian continent, where ?the face of Jesus Saviour of the world is still unknown? and Christianity is still felt as a foreign religion, linked to adverse events of colonization. Referring to the many solid documents of the FABC (Federation of Asian Bishops? Conferences), and to the Extraordinary Synod for Asia by John Paul II who took over its conclusions, the a. reports some paths of inculturation: the recognition of the mistakes of the past, the assumption of the great cultural wealth of the continent, a strong inter-religious dialogue and a predominantly narrative theology. Jesus is not a problem for Asian peoples, which indeed feel the strong attraction of his person and his message, but can still see the ?conversion to Christianity? as a denial of their identity. For this reason there is difference ? and even persecution ? against the mission of the Church, seen as proselytizing. There is no future for the Church in Asia if we do not walk quickly and boldly toward an ?Asian Christianity?. However ? the a. warns ? inculturation is not a one-way process: the Gospel takes on the cultural riches of the peoples of Asia, but at the same time frees them from some of their mistakes and elevates them.
