Abstract The interpretative process is characterized as dialogue between two cultural worlds, as an exchange between the generative culture of the text and the receiving culture. The hermeneutic process is, in fact, bi-polar and remains incomplete until when a determined text is understood ? re-expressed and rendered relevant ? in a recipient culture. Starting from a reading of the images of God in the book of Hosea, the article proposes a dialogic interpretative approach, which respects both the text and the recipient culture. After analysing several images present in the book of Hosea, the article explores the pre-understanding with which a specific culture, the Akan (Ghana) encounters the text. From this ?face to face? encounter is born a dialogue between the questions the culture puts to the text and the call to action that the text offers to the culture. The encounter with the God of Hosea could broaden the theological horizon, adding the image of the immanence of God to that of transcendence, creating the certainty of a relation of free and unconditional love.
