| Abstract | The pursuit of happiness always involves a paradox. This article begins by examining the concept of happiness and the paradox of happiness in Western economics and shows how the paradox of happiness is never overcome. The paper then examines the Buddhist idea of happiness. In Buddhism, happiness is explained with regard to how it arises in the human mind. In Buddhism to avoid the paradox of happiness and its attendant suffering is to change our views and attitude about happiness and about the pursuit of happiness. |
