| Abstract | The introduction to this contribution aims to analyze how the concept of religious freedom has evolved from the Albertine Statue (1848) to the coming into force of the Italian Constitution. Then the essay examines the different meanings implied in Art.19 of the current Italian Constitution which affirms the right to religious freedom. In particular it refers to the independence of religious confessions, to the freedom of conscience and to the institutional positions taken by the Catholic Church and by non catholic confessions as they are expressed in Arts. 7 and 8. |
