| Abstract | The a. reviews the history of the noted axiom that St. Cyprian wished to affirm that there is no salvation outside of the Church that pardons the lapsed and that, for a series of later interpretations, has become the reference point for defending the Roman Catholic ecclesiological exclusivism. Another re-reading fo the tradition up to Vatican II and of the theological discussion that followed allows us to read the adage ?Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus? in this way: there is no salvation for those who oppose the unifying and reconciling work of God. |
