Abstract Interpreted in the light of the Kantian doctrine of autonomy, the theory of human rights escapes drifting into individualism. The Universal Declaration of 1948 does not give in to this drift either even though community belonging, with the exception of the family institution, is not much taken into consideration ; the dignity of each human being is quite rightly affirmed in the Declaration and the emphasis on this element can in no way be confused with a glorification of individual self-will.
