Abstract The a. proceeds with the question raised by X. Th?venot: is it possible for Catholic ethics to contribute to the actual struggle of the various ethics? He first stresses the principle of the autonomy of ethics, which is already found in the Summa of Thomas Aquinas, and which is fully elaborated in the ethical writings of Paul Ricoeur. The specific and new contribution of the Christian revelation to the common ethics then would be the gratuitousness of the gift of God, the principle of grace which should inspire every Christian action.
