| Abstract | In his exhortation Evangelii Gaudium in 2013, Pope Francis sharply criticized an economy that kills, the idolatry of money that does not serve but governs, and the generate violence. Francis rejects these idols of the modern world in the name of the pre-eminence of the human being, a pre-eminence established by the God, who outlines the path of man on earth. And to build a better world in justice and peace the Pope is in favor of interfaith dialogue, since all religions, especially the Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are obliged to defend the people against modern idols. This paper illustrates the position of Pope Bergoglio, stressing that never before has a pope gone so far in criticizing the capitalist market as practiced in many areas of the world today. |
