| Abstract | Kruja, which was once the stronghold of Albanian resistance to Turkish domination, and the centre for the spread of Bektashim, now constitutes an interesting nucleus of civil and religious tolerance between Sunnite and Bektashi Muslims and Orthodox and Catholic Christians. The essay analyses the historical and social causes behind this phenomenon, highlighting how in a fairly traditional cultural environment religion is present, not in the form of dogma, but rather as a system of moral rules to be applied to everyday life, and also is relation to the religious differences represented in the region. |
