Abstract It introduces the research on Hebraism and social policies in England and France during the last decade. In England the Jewish community has renounced the isolationistic attitude. Social services are subsidized in part by the community and partially by the Government. In France the Jewish community achieved deeper transformations. There are lots of activities regarding the weakest social classes and the Government collaborates with them. Both realities present at the same time two attitudes: one wants to strengthen the ethnic and the religious identity, the other one aims to a greater pluralism.
