Abstract This essay presents the meaning and the implications of the Noahide covenant from a Jewish point of view. The Noahide covenant is universal and points toward theologically legitimatizing all civilized humanity, the validity of religious diversity and the tolerance of the religious Other. Yet its pluralism is not totally open-ended: it restricts validity and mutual respect to those who lead moral and socially constructive lives. Theologically speaking, the Noahide covenant is the legal instrument that extends God's love and involvement in the lives of all who dignify God's creatures, promote human flourishing, and bring God's world closer to redemption.
