| Abstract | Qatar stands out among the other Gulf States for its long-standing choice of promoting its own kind of tolerant Islam. It follows a more open interpretation of the Wahhabism doctrine than that adopted and promoted by Saudi Arabia. The Saudis have recently decided, with their Sunni allies in the area, to economically and politically isolate Qatar. The article explains the reasons and addresses the delicate issue of the US? position and their current policy in the region and across the Middle East. |
