Abstract African theology of ecology is a contextualized reading of Christian theology of the environment from an African perspective and world-view. Exponents of African theology of ecology and environmental protection emphasize man?s relationship with the environment, the land and spirit-world, from the perspective of an African thought-pattern and spirituality. Their point of departure is the harmonious relationship that exists between man and the environment. Inspired by Christian theology of creation, African authors relate their studies and research to the resent-day state of environmental degradation in the continent. The theologians give particular importance to African religious and spiritual dimensions of the universe from the perspective of African philosophy of relationality and harmonious relationship between the visible and spiritual worlds, the consequence of its neglect for environmental protection on the part of man. They point out the transforming dimension of African religiosity, the spiritual interpretation of the universe and the relationship between man and his environment ? human being as a civilizing being in the universe, with the function of a ?priest? charged with environmental protection and caretaker.
