Abstract This paper investigates the role of museums in promoting interreligious dialogue through the analysis of the exhibition ?Jerusalem, a thrice-holy city? organized by the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MuCEM) in Marseille. It argues that the interpretation of religion as an inalienable freedom and a daily practice creates a communicative code that fosters the mutual enrichment among different religious affiliations. In the exhibition, the narrative of the three monotheisms according to the ?day-to-day religion? approach is evident in 1) the typology of religious objects, 2) their display and 3) the language used. These elements make the museum a place for experiencing the religious practices other that one's own.
