Abstract The Drama of Atheist Humanism (1944) was criticized, namely by Georges Morel and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Morel said that Atheism should be de-dramatized, while Merleau-Ponty said that it should be disconnected from the question of God. In addition, the Heideggerian form of Modern Atheism differs from the nineteenth-century hostility to Christianity analysed by de Lubac. In a contemporary context, can today’s atheism still be defined as a « drama » by theologians ? The Author examines de Lubac’s position, the determination of the Magisterium and the heuristic use of the concept of pure nature which Emmanuel Falque has recently chosen and proposed to theologians to enter in dialogue with Atheism.
