Abstract Aim of this special issue is to discuss some aspects of the relationship between Millennials, religion and interfaith dialogue, with a particular focus on Italy. Italy is a country where Catholicism, compared to other European countries, is still strong. However, we have witnessed a weakening of religious faith over the past 20 years and a growing trend toward personal spiritual inquiry. This trend seems particularly strong among women and the younger generations. Moreover, Italy is a country deeply challenged by migration flows that needs intercultural and interfaith institutions and actors to build and sustain mutual understanding. In order to understand how Millennial women and men are redefining their relationship with religion and their contribution to interfaith dialogue, a survey among university students has being carried out in a number of Italian Universities The national survey « Young People and Religion », the largest ever conducted in Italy on this subject−more than 10,000 questionnaires have been collected − is part of the interdisciplinary research activity carried out within the Framework Convention « Gender and Religions » - a confederation of nearly 30 Italian Universities and 13 Research Centers across Italy launched by the University of Milano-Bicocca − that has been developed to enhance knowledge sharing and research collaboration on the dynamic relationship between women, men, and religion.
