Abstract | The a. explains that St. John de Britto adopted the mood of life of the caste called Pandarists. He traveled many places in India on foot and lived austerely. He dressed himself in the saffron cloak and turban of the native Indians, abstained from eating meat. However John was hated by many because of his faith. He and his followers were often subjected to agonizing torture like beating, laceration. But each time John was miraculously recovered. Britto opted for group conversion in rural castes and found a tremendous success. He met with a lot of miseries and sufferings and eventually became a martyr. After his martyrdom the colour of the sand was turned red and it is called as Red Sand. |
