| Abstract | The pope's address in Regensburg in 2006 attracted international attention. Is his plea for an image of God that is consistent and justifiable in terms of human reason appropriate as an absolute criterion for interreligious dialogue? Against the background of the islamic image of God, which the pope treated critically, the attractiveness of a mutual need for reason and faith becomes apparent. Is however the pope not appreciating only one part of his own catholic tradition? Is his proposal still sustainable within a modern and postmodern philosophical constellation? Does the islamic tradition, especially in its mystical strains, offer a completely different starting point for further dialogue? |
