Abstract The theme of evangelization, intended in the strict sense as the proposal of the Christian faith to non-Christians, was not a central issue in the Second Vatican Council. The mental picture of the time was that of a church dedicated to the pastoral care of the faithful and committed to spread the Christian faith where it was not yet come. Fifty years after, however, we have an acute awareness of the presence of many non-believers in Christ even in countries of ancient Christian tradition. They are followers of other religions, atheists, agnostics, or baptized persons who have not received any Christian education or rejected it. To avoid many misunderstandings, if we remote the adjective ?new? from the expression ?new evangelization?, the problem stands out clearly: the point is giving to every believer in Christ the consciousness and the ability to enter into dialogue with those close to him/her, starting from his/her own family, from the colleauges from work or study....The point is adopting the attitude that the Church took in the Council, where, in the words of Paul VI, the Church ?felt the need to know, to approach, to understand, to penetrate, to serve and to evangelize the surrounding society, and to comprehend it, almost to pursue it in its rapid and continuous change?.
