Abstract The author critically re-reads all the work of the seminar. The fundamental question arising at the theological level is the attribution of the reported events to the Holy Spirit and their interpretation in relation to the mission of the Church in the world. The fear of ?caging the Spirit? cannot exempt from an attempt to identity the criteria for recognizing where the Spirit is actually at work. Some categories are then selected, that refer to experiences in which one could see the action of the Spirit in the Church's mission: reconciliation, dialogue, the sending to mission, the protagonist of the poor, ecological commitment. Finally, the enucleated criteria can be summarized as follows. The Spirit, who is the Spirit of Jesus, is at the beginning both of mission, and of the Church's life; this last cannot be thought ?before? mission. It opens the Christian community to the impredictable, enabling the Church to welcome every new situation with a discernment founded on Christology. It makes the whole community subject of mission, in its articulation of charisms and ministries. It frees the Church not only from cultural narrow-mindedness, but also from obsolete practices, unable to tell the Gospel to the people of today. It makes the Christian community able to cooperate with all those who work in order that the whole of humanity be good, true and happy, that is the goal to which God wants to lead everybody. It gives parrhesia in proposing to all cultures the measure of the human, which is Jesus in his whole life. It opens the community to recognize the signs of the Spirit's presence beyond its own boundaries, and therefore it de-centralizes the Church.Proceeding along these lines, one avoids falling into general statements and can verify whether mission is actually accomplished in the power of the Spirit.
