Abstract In the last few years in Oceania some native theologies have arisen which have life, as it is really lived by the local populations in the various islands of this immense ocean, as their key to interpretation. These range from the cosmic understanding of ?life? which is still present in primitive religions (the sky, the sea and the earth are life-giving realities for them) to the struggle for life which is visible in the urban and semi-urban settlements in this area. The native theologies, in their initial attempts at reflection, adopted trains of thought which were inspired by the method of correlation which aimed at underlining any possible analogies between indigenous cultures and biblical and theological concepts which are related: the mistery of the Trinity (?God Ocean? Teomoana); Jesus as a tui, (a king), and a turaga, (a chief); ways of native spirituality, as for example, a rich life with reveals itself in harmonious relationships (gutpela sindaun), an illuminating feminist spirituality of environment which is inspired by the dramatic events which they have experienced in the last few years, such as the nuclear experiments in the Pacific, the rise in the level of the sea which forces the inhabitants of the islands to emigrate to other islands. In this context the local churches have given rise to some lines of new evangelization which are suitable to the local situation which are described in the Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in Oceania of John Paul II (2001).
